Lammas soda bread on the altar table.
Today was a lazy day, and that’s ok. I began it as I do every day with tarot pulls. It being the start of August, there is also a new challenge to pull for each day. I found an interesting Lammas themed tarot spread online too:
The gold of this deck reminded me of golden wheat.
Rain threatened all afternoon so Ana and I stayed inside she got to go to her friend’s house to swim in the morning so that was good. I watched Fran Lebowitz’s Netflix show in its entirety while Ana was out. What can I say, I’m just so in love with old school New Yorkers, they’re a dying breed and they all seem to have tiny apartments stuffed with books!
When Ana got home she asked if she could paint which was a perfect Lammas and rainy day activity. I painted a bizarre flower that I thought would be right at home in the pages of the Voynich manuscript because I’m strange like that. I think Ana copied it but it’s out of the frame of this pic. She also did a wet on wet painting which I’ve never taught her how to do.
My bizarre flower and Ana’s painted cats.
By the time our painting session was done it was time for me to bake my soda bread and heat up last night’s left overs for dinner. My soda bread recipe is vegan and I figured out how to make it in the air fryer so I don’t have to turn my oven on in the middle of summer! I think I should have flattened it out a bit more but it was still delicious as it always is.
Dinner was chickpea pasta, tossed with olive oil, kale, tons of garlic, cannellini beans, and red lentils all seasoned with turmeric, black pepper, red pepper flakes and the roasted vegetable flavor of Better than Bouillon. I love dishes like this, they’re rustic, hearty and good for you without compromising flavor.
So much kale and garlic, just the way I like it!
I wound up not doing an actual ritual tonight and that’s ok too. We still had a great day and delicious bread and are thankful and grateful for the nutritious food we get to eat. We may not be harvesting with our own hands here but we can still appreciate nature’s bounty and fuel our bodies with Mother Earth’s energy.
Blessed Be!
